Mood & Sleep
Tryptophan is an amino acid. Amino acids are the building blocks for proteins and are found in many plant and animal proteins. L-Tryptophan is called an ‘essential’ amino acid because the body cannot make it on its own. This is an amino acid that is mainly found in protein-rich foods. You will find a lot of Tryptophan in eggs, beef, chicken, fish and dairy.
L-Tryptophan is a building block of the neurotransmitter Serotonin, the hormone Melatonin and the metabolite Kynurenine. Serotonin is an important neurotransmitter in the brain for the regulation of mood, behavior and sexuality and a normal appetite. Serotonin is converted to Melatonin in the dark, this hormone plays an extremely important regulating role in the light/dark cycle. Kynurenine uses the body in the production of Niacin, a form of vitamin B3.
The fermented amino acid L-Tryptophan from Botanical Vitamins was developed and produced by the Dutch company Pharmavit. With the Aminoferment® brand, Pharmavit produces the highest quality fermented amino acids under their ISO 22000 certification. All Aminoferment® amino acids are non-GMO and no material of animal origin is used.
The fermentation process converts the macronutrients into food. Macronutrients are nutrients that provide energy to the body. The calories or energy is needed for growth, metabolism and other bodily functions. So, these macronutrients are nutrients that the body needs in large quantities. There are three macronutrients:
- The proteins are converted into short protein chains and thus amino acids are released.
- The carbohydrates release monosaccharides of medium length, the monosaccharides are the simplest carbohydrates.
- The fast-released fatty acids
Originally, natural fermentation was used to extend the shelf life. But it was discovered that fermented food had many nutritional benefits and was also healthy for the body. This is why there are fermented foods on the market today. The benefits of fermented amino acids/food is that it is pre-digested. Fermented food stimulates the functioning of our digestive system and ensures an easier and better absorption of the nutrients, the bioavailability is significantly improved. In addition, fermented food also enriches the intestinal flora due to the presence of living micro-organisms.
The L-Tryptophan in Fermented L-Tryptophan Plus from Botanical Vitamins is a fermented amino acid, which means that the improved bioavailability ensures that it is more efficiently absorbed by the body and can serve as a building block for the neurotransmitter Serotonin.
